Does this make “chewy” ice? YES! Can I use whatever (clean) water I want? YES! Does this make ice fast enough to use? Depends on how many servings of ice needed. I am a water snob and an ice snob. I really hate the shape of the ice that my refrigerator ice maker makes (crescent moons). I also don’t like the fact that the fridge ice maker uses tap water to make ice. With this ice maker, I use water filtered from my reverse osmosis countertop filter. This machine makes real chewy or pellet ice. The ice is smaller than sugar cubes and are indeed chewable; also roughly a squarish shape. I have dental appliances in my mouth and I have to be careful of how hard I chew. These ice pellets are perfectly chewable – only slightly harder than nuts, comparatively. I used an inline watt meter to measure the energy consumption of this unit. When it was actively making ice, I observed an approximate 140 watt usage – which is comparable to a medium computer plus large monitor. The power consumption should be easily handled by a portable generator or most car DC to AC inverters (think RV and portable power stations). This ice maker starts spitting out pellet by pellet after 5-6 minutes and keeps pumping out ice until it runs out of water or if the ice gets to the top. When the ice storage reservoir gets full, there is enough ice to fill a 30oz steel tumbler or a quart container. Since the storage area is not refrigerated or cooled, the ice will melt into the water reservoir below. However, the ice maker seems to only manually restart even if the ice has all melted away. What I do to overcome the small storage capacity is to make several batches of ice and throw the ice in the freezer so I have extra ice on hand. However, since the ice is wet, it clumps into chunks in the cold freezer. Although it isn’t too difficult to break apart the ice, the task does add extra hassle. Storing this unit requires drying out the inside. There is a drain plug on the bottom underneath the unit but still will take some time to dry the rest of the surfaces - which may also involve turning the unit upside down – a slight hassle. Physically, this unit has a slightly larger footprint than my 12-cup coffee maker. While not bulletproof, the engineering and construction seem high quality and precise. All in all, I do love this ice maker, so far. I’ve given it a full 5-star rating because all the shortcomings I’ve identified are generally present in all similar products and is just a matter of changing my expectations of the limitations of portable ice makers. I don't like water but know I have to drink more. I have to have it ice cold, so having ice on hand at all times is very important, so I ordered this. First of all, it's really reasonably priced. I've seen other name brand machines that are much more expensive. It was very easy to assemble and set up. It's rather large and does take up some space on the countertop, but it does look nice. You also have to have some space around it for the fan to operate properly. The cord is nice and long, so that makes it easier to find a spot on the counter. It's also very easy to operate. You simply add water to the max level, hit the button and it does its thing. I took about an hour to get a quarter of the basket full of ice (see first picture). After that, it seemed like it made ice fairly quickly and I was never waiting on it to make more. I love the pellet ice that it makes but be aware that this kind of ice melts fast in your drinks and tends to water them down. That's why I normally use the ice just for water.

The Chewing-block ice is made from crushed ice that’s been cut with blades, unlike traditional hard block ice, which is chewable, brittle, and ready quickly. This ice maker operates quietly, and the transparent lid allows you to monitor the ice-making process. It’s easy to use and has been working great so far.

I'm impressed how fast this thing turns out some ice. Seems like it fills up the container in a few min. Kind of looks like it is made on a convayer belt it comes out so fast. Has been running since Christmas 4 months ago and haven't had any issues. Well worth what I paid. Wish I had bought it sooner, as my 2 year old Frigidaire fridge ice maker can't keep up with demand during the summer.

I really enjoy this ice maker. It’s quiet, produces ice quickly, and has a sleek stainless steel exterior. It’s more compact than my previous ice machine. This produces a very small crunchy ice that melts very quick. I like this for cooling down water and tea quickly. It works great for my needs and is a nice addition to my kitchen. They include an ice scoop but there isn’t a way to clip it into the lid or a storage area for it.

Great appliance! A little noisy for my small studio, but I have learned to tune it out (most of the time). It is not refrigerated, so the ice does slowly melt in the bin, but it is constantly making new ice. In fact, it makes it surprisingly fast. I find myself refilling it a lot, not because the reservoir is particularly small, but because it's so convenient to grab ice for everything. As for ease of cleaning, it was a little bit confusing the first time I did it, but customer service walked me through the steps and then it was back up and running just fine. As for looks I think it is pretty compact considering, and I think the build feels like it was made with quality materials. Overall, it is a workhorse in my kitchen, and I think for the convenience it's fantastic. I would buy it again, no questions asked!!

Very convenient! I brought this ice maker for occasional use, this is very compact and yet very powerful ice maker. It doesn’t take that much of space and also produces a lot of ice in short amount of time. The noise level is relatively low, and when you’re finished, you just put it away. I also like the style of it, very high end stainless steel, easy to clean as well. Wound definitely recommend to someone who’s looking for it.

I had been wanting a counter top ice maker, and decided on this brand due to the reviews I read. It made ice very quickly. Not very noisy. Made enough ice through out the day to keep 2 large tumblers full. This is a great choice in counter top ice makers. Love this machine. I would not normally use ice from the freezer but once I got this ice maker I kept my tumbler full of ice all day and night. Just a great machine.

I just got mine today. The ice makes quickly and the ice small pellet ice cubes. It is very quiet. I had a bigger machine that played out after a couple of years and it was bulkier and noisy. The ice this machine makes is tiny. With that said, the ice did melt faster. Even sitting in the machine, it was melting. That’s disappointing because I have one that didn’t do that at all therefore I can compare. It’s compact and is perfect for something quick or to have ice to chew on all day like I do. I’d buy it again but the ice melting is the a drawback. I think you have to decide if the good qualities outweigh the bad.
